SCMCHA Confirms Its Support for Localizing the Humanitarian Action in Yemen and Building Strategic Partnerships With Local Organizations
Considering the local organizations as the first responders to humanitarian action at a time when many UN and international organizations have stopped, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. AbdulMohsen Tawoos, praised the active role played by local organizations in alleviating the humanitarian crisis and meeting the emergency needs of the IDPs and the most vulnerable.
At the first periodic meeting of local humanitarian actors, organized by SCMCHA on Tuesday, Tawoos confirmed their support for the initiative to localize the humanitarian action in Yemen, promote the institutional building of local organizations, build strategic partnerships with them, as well as develop a joint action mechanism and solve existing problems in order to provide an effective response in the field of action and the implementation of sustainable projects.
Tawoos directed the concerned departments in SCMCHA to add representatives of local organizations to the Committee, which is preparing the operational manual for projects funded by Yemen Humanitarian Fund and international organizations. In a first step towards the localization of humanitarian action, Tawoos revealed the establishment of a joint committee to assess the performance of local organizations in accordance with the criteria and mechanisms established by the Council. He pointed out that the periodic meetings between SCMCHA and local organizations and institutions will be held periodically every two months in order to achieve communication and convergence between the Government and local partners.
Mr Hussien Al Suhaily, Coordinator of the Humanitarian Action Localization Initiative, Chairman of Tamdeen Youth Foundation, appreciated the interaction of SCMCHA with the efforts of local organizations to localize the humanitarian action and improve the efficiency of humanitarian response, thereby reducing the burden on government bodies and supporting their efforts to provide services and achieve sustainable development. He stressed the importance of the full cooperation of local organizations with the SCMCHA and government bodies in order to agree on a partnership framework that ensures coordination and integration and builds bridges of trust and transparency between the two parties.
The meeting, which was attended by heads of departments, directors of all departments concerned with the Council and heads and directors of local organizations, included transparent discussions on challenges and obstacles in the work of local organizations. At the end of the meeting, the participants thanked the Council for its support for the Humanitarian Action Localization Initiative in Yemen and for its keenness to activate coordination and communication mechanisms in order to improve efficiency in meeting the needs of local communities and vulnerable groups and to contribute to sustainable development.
