Meeting between Humanitarian Action Localization Initiative Team and the European Union Delegation to Yemen
Yesterday, the Humanitarian Action Localization Initiative team in Yemen held a virtual meeting with the EU Delegation to Yemen.
The meeting was attended by Rafael Sánchez Carmona, Team Leader to Yemen, Ms. Linn Jansson, Program Manager at the Delegation of the EU to Yemen, Mr. Felix, Representative of DG ECHO, Mr. Hussein Al Suhaily, Chairman of Tamdeen Youth Foundation and Coordinator of the Localization Initiative0, Jameel Abdo, TYF’s CEO, Dr. Tammam Al-Hatari, TYF’s Program Manager, and Abdul Qawi Hajeb, Localization Project Manager. In the meeting, the team presented the Localization Initiative launched by CSOs in Yemen on August 19, 2021, to optimize humanitarian response mechanisms in Yemen, enable local organizations to play their role in the humanitarian action system in accordance with the commitment of the UN and international organizations to the donor community to localize humanitarian aid enshrined in the “Grand Bargain” and the “Charter for Change”.
And in order to move forward with the initiative and achieve its objectives, consultations and meetings held in this aspect with partners, collaborators and stakeholders, the steps that have been completed were summarized at the meeting.
The initiative team stressed the urgent need to localize humanitarian action in Yemen to redesign the response system and avoid gaps and errors in the current system relying on the approach of the Triple Nexus (humanitarian response, development cooperation, and peace-building), and enabling local actors to plan, design and lead the response as a goal of the global humanitarian community. In turn, European Union Delegation expressed their happiness with this meeting.
