Aden: Al Suhaily Meets With the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Discusses Economic Recovery and Humanitarian Action Localization
Today, in Aden, Mr. Hussien Al Suhaily, Chairman of Tamdeen Youth Foundation, Coordinator of the Humanitarian Action Localization Initiative in Yemen, Coordinator of the National Economic Recovery Program, met with the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Roads, Dr. Mohammad Ahmed Thabet.
At the meeting, Al Suhaily presented the localization initiative and stressed the need to optimize humanitarian response mechanisms in Yemen in line with the Triple Nexus Approach (Humanitarian Response, Development and Peace-building), and to consult with local organizations, Government actors and stakeholders to set priorities and put interventions in context.
He also pointed out that the Economic Recovery Initiative aims to mobilize national efforts and establish a genuine partnership between the Government, the private sector, CSOs and regional and international donors to prepare a program and development plans for recovery, focusing on vital and essential sectors, including education, health, infrastructure, electricity, WASH, housing, roads and bridges.
He also pointed out that civil society organizations support the restoration of Yemen's institutions to their function in leading development projects and providing basic public services. They are keen to partner with government agencies and other stakeholders in meeting humanitarian and development needs, and dealing in a unified vision with donors and UN and international organizations to absorb grants and assistance in accordance with institutional planning and local models that have the advantages of a deep understanding of society. "No one knows the needs of the community better than the community itself, so CSOs have experience in setting the most important priorities for their communities." Al Suhaily added
In turn, the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Roads praised the contents and objectives of the localization and recovery initiatives, and confirmed cooperation and coordination with CSOs and development partners in preparing plans and programs for recovery and reconstruction, and assessing and addressing damage according to accurate data and comprehensive urban criteria.
He stressed the commitment of donors and UN and international organizations to institutional action and effective coordination with the Government and local actors, and the need to adopt innovative mechanisms in funding and planning for the implementation of humanitarian response projects, infrastructure, sustainable development, job creation and improving the lives of citizens.
He also pointed out that the Government is in the process of establishing a risk and disaster management fund, as the country had been devastated by war and natural disasters.
