Al Suhaily Calls for the Support of the Marine Science Authority to Rebuild the Fisheries Sector With a Scientific Vision
Mr. Hussein Al Suhaily, Chairman of Tamdeen Youth Foundation, Coordinator of the Humanitarian Action Localization Initiative in Yemen, and Coordinator of the National Economic Recovery Program, called for support for the Marine Science Research Authority and its role in rebuilding the fisheries sector in accordance with a scientific vision, so as to achieve the sustainability of marine environmental resources and the maximum use and investment of national wealth.
During his Monday meeting with the Authority's Chairwoman, Dr. Hana Rasheed Ahmed, Al Suhaily emphasized cooperation with the Authority in the analysis and institutional building, preparation of a joint plan of action in the areas of studies and research, training and capacity-building, advocacy for the protection of the marine environment, awareness of the risks of violations to aquatic life and fish stocks, investment stimulus, and implementation of strategic projects in the areas of production, export, agriculture, and development of marine life.
For her part, Dr. Hana appreciated the interest of CSOs in the fisheries sector, and their recognition of the importance of scientific studies and research in development, noting the need for the Authority to increase its budget, provide it with specialized research personnel, regularize the conditions of its employees and improve their lives.
The meeting was attended by the Technical Adviser to the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, Eng. Ahmed Saeed Al Wahsh, and TYF's MEAL Officer, Ms. Bushra Abdullah.
