Statement by Civil Society Organizations in Yemen for Human Solidarity with Turkey and Syria Earthquake Victims

Civil society organizations in Yemen extend their deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the devastating earthquake in southern Turkey and northern Syria, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured, and safety and recovery for those affected by this painful disaster, which requires the whole world's unity and human solidarity.

While civil society organizations in Yemen express their thanks and appreciation to the countries and organizations that initiated emergency relief, saved the lives of the injured and trapped under the rubble, and provided shelter services to those whose homes have been destroyed, they call for:

- Support to all Syrians and Turkish in all areas affected by the earthquake, by the States Members of the United Nations, the Organization's General Secretariat, its relevant agencies and funds, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other humanitarian partners from intergovernmental organizations, as the scale of the calamity is much greater than the response so far.

- An urgent appeal by the United Nations and its partners to all countries and donors to assist the earthquake victims, and to fund the assistance needed to cope with this devastating disaster.

- Coordinating the response with UN agencies and other humanitarian actors to provide assistance and support to those affected, and sending aid through the lines of contact urgently, immediately and unhindered, especially to the affected areas of northwestern Syria, where 4.1 million Syrians, including 2.8 million IDPs, depend on humanitarian assistance.

- Emphasis on the provision of humanitarian assistance to those affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria without discrimination or politicization, and in line with the provisions of international humanitarian law.

- Enabling humanitarian organizations to operate in conflict zones, and calling on all parties to allow unhindered humanitarian access to civilians.

Civil society organizations in Yemen affirm that humanity is indivisible. In the disasters, all political considerations and narrow interests must stop. This disaster pushes us to the need for human solidarity, and to call for solving problems through understanding and dialogue.

In conclusion, we pay tribute and appreciation to the rescue teams, volunteers and all aid workers who risk their lives to save lives and deliver humanitarian aid. You Are Our Heroes.

Let us make the world's efforts as whole unite to confront natural disasters, poverty, ignorance and disease, stop conflicts and wars. Let all believe in the values of compassion and coexistence for peace in the world.
