On the 12th Anniversary of Tamdeen Youth Foundation: A Personal Journey in Humanitarian Work

Ali Al-Salmi

Twelve years ago today, the Tamdeen Youth Foundation was born as a noble humanitarian idea. Over time, it grew into one of the leading organizations in Yemen's humanitarian sector, continuously working to alleviate the suffering of thousands of families affected by conflict, poverty, and displacement. On this meaningful occasion, I would like to share some key moments from my professional journey with this remarkable institution, which has played a significant role in shaping my personal and professional life.

My journey with Tamdeen Youth began as a Field Monitor for a food assistance distribution project in Al-Silw District, Taiz Governorate, where I witnessed firsthand how humanitarian work can truly change lives. It was not just about handing out food baskets; it was about confronting real-life challenges and engaging directly with people’s hardships an experience that deepened my belief in the sanctity of humanitarian work.

Later, I was entrusted with a greater responsibility as a Project Coordinator for the Food Security Program  in Gabl Habshi District, Taiz Governorate, overseeing distribution operations in some of the most vulnerable areas. This role required meticulous planning and continuous collaboration with partners and donors to ensure that aid reached those in need with dignity and fairness.

Perhaps the most pivotal chapter of my journey was when I served as Project Manager for the Emergency Response to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Ibb and Al-Dhale’e Governorates. It was a project filled with professional and humanitarian challenges. We worked under extremely difficult conditions to assist families who had lost everything, and every day I witnessed how humanitarian intervention could restore a glimmer of hope to the faces of their children.

Through all these experiences, Tamdeen Youth was not just a workplace it was a field school where I learned the true values of humanity, professionalism, and teamwork. It consistently served as a model of transparency, integrity, and responsiveness in times of crisis.

In closing, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all my colleagues both leadership and staff on this special anniversary. I wish Tamdeen Youth continued success and growth, and may it remain a beacon of hope in Yemen’s humanitarian path.
