Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience Project Gives Hope to 69 Families in Rural Taiz to Get Out of Poverty through Livestock

After years of struggling to obtain basic food needs and daily necessities, the war forced her and her four family members to flee from Taiz in southwestern Yemen to Al Mashawala sub-district in Al Ma'afer district. Faiza Ali Abdul Jalil Al Barkani, 35 years old, can provide food and drink for herself and her family, after being assisted by the (Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience Program for Vulnerable IDPs and Host Communities Affected by Crises, Conflicts and Disasters in Yemen) implemented by Tamdeen Youth Foundation, in partnership with Oxfam, and with funding from Danida, to have a decent and sustainable livelihood.

Faiza now owns four pregnant ewes that she was able to buy with a grant from the project. She now has a lot of energy and knowledge to take care of them and increase their production and numbers.

After receiving training on proper methods of handling, raising and fattening livestock, she can earn and sell from her sheep. "My children and I have never drunk milk since we were displaced, but now we drink milk every day," says Faiza

"This support and assistance from the project gave me and my family hope to rebuild our lives again... I have the enthusiasm to raise a large number of sheep and get money to live a happy life." she adds

In addition to Faiza, there are 68 women from IDPs and conflict-affected families in Al Ma'afer and Ash Shamayatain districts, Taiz governorate. The project provided them with the necessary training and support in raising and producing livestock, and strengthened their resilience with their families, provided a decent livelihood, and found a way out of poverty.
