A New Hope for Ahlam and Her Children

Ahlam Ali is a 28-year-old IDP widow. She lives with her five children at an IDPs' site in Lahj governorate, Yemen. Due to the war, she lost her husband, taking responsibility for looking after her children, including her little daughter, who suffers from intellectual disability and developmental delays.

Before receiving support from Tamdeen Youth Foundation (TYF), funded by Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), Ahlam and her children lived in a run-down tent. They were exposed to extreme weather conditions. In the summer, rain leaks into their tent. Additionally, they experience sever wind and cold during winter.

As part of "Provision of Shelter Maintenance/Upgrades Project in Tuban District, Lahj Governorate", Ahlam's shelter was upgraded by providing her with a tarpaulin resistant to heat and water as a roof, linen tarpaulins as walls, and high-quality wooden poles and planks to support her tent.

"I am very grateful for the support I received from the project that helped improve our lives significantly," says Ahlam.

Ahlam is now optimistic about the future. She believes her children will be fine now as they have a safe and comfortable shelter.

"I'm relieved that I can now sleep safely... Our tent is no longer in bad shape. Now we are safe," says her daughter.

This story is one of the project's successes that provided the most sustainable shelter solutions to 312 IDP families in 6 temporary hosting sites in Tuban district, Lahj governorate.
