Rehabilitation of the sewerage network in Al Hawk neighborhoods in Al Hudaydah restores a healthy and safe life for the population

Due to the consequences of the war in Yemen since mid-2015, basic services have been disrupted. And the National Water and Sanitation Authority in Al Hudaydah Governorate was unable to drain the rain water and dispose of wastewater that has flowed into the streets of Al Hawak neighborhoods, south of Al Hudaydah Governorate.
Mosquito proliferated and disease spread, and many residents in the neighborhoods of (Al Dahmeyah, Kawkaban, Al Hawak Al Olia, Al Hawak Al Sofla, and Al Honood) were infected with dengue fever, cholera and malaria.
Dozens of shops were closed, and children could not find a place to play, after wastewater and sewage overflowed public squares in the middle of their homes and turned them into centers for mosquitos and worms to proliferate.

Due to the support provided by the Humanitarian Pooled Fund – Yemen (YHF) for the Integrated Assistance Project, Tamdeen Youth Foundation, in partnership with the National Water and Sanitation Authority, managed to suction wastewater, lift waste and solid materials, replace damaged covers for the drains and rehabilitate the sewerage network in the 5 neighborhoods, and save the lives of 49,739 people, from an environmental disaster.

Today, residents bade farewell to their suffering with sewage overflow, and the children were able to play in a clean environment and go to school, rather than being engaged with their families in the chase after the insects that were invading their homes.

Ali Hassan Heba recalls the suffering in Al-Hawak Al Sofla Quarter by saying: (Malaria, fever and rashes diseases were common to the people of the neighborhood and most families did not survive infection with one of these diseases … Then Tamdeen Youth Foundation came to rehabilitate the sewerage network and suction the sewage as a savior for us from the suffering and tragedy that we were unable to address.)
