As part of its efforts to promote peace-building, and within its implementation of the Community Frameworks for Peace project in Jabal Habshy district, Taiz, Tamdeen Youth Foundation, with funding from Jusoor Programme, has successfully resolved two conflict issues in Jabal Habshy district.
The first was an agreement to re-open Ayn Al-Qasr spring water, in Al Manem area, Odainah hamlet, Jabal Habshy district, after a hiatus since 2011, due to disputes between the parties involved in the use of the spring water, which had completely been damaged.
The intervention of TYF came at a time of water scarcity and increased local tensions, which necessitated painstaking efforts to resolve the conflict.
The agreement, sponsored by TYF, stipulated that the management of the water project should be by a joint committee representing the people of the region, and resumed water pumping according to a fair distribution schedule among the beneficiaries. TYF will provide two pumps, a network and water tanks.
The second was a resolution of a dispute over the road between Tha'ab and Kazem, Al Maratebah hamlet, where TYF have succeeded in persuading the owners of agricultural land to build a road, and to pave and pave the difficult areas there. This road is a major lifeline for nearly 3,000 residents of the region and will contribute to saving cost, time and effort.
It should be noted that the outcome was preceded by consultations and community dialogues sponsored by TYF and funded by Jusoor programme, which, after tireless efforts, contributed to restoring trust and understanding among the parties to the conflict. Dialogues are continuing to find solutions to a larger number of conflict issues in the district, with a view to reactivating stalled services in road, water and education, reducing violence, hate speech and incitement, leading to community stability and sustainable peace.
