A mass festival for Tamdeen Youth Foundation (TYF) in Al Ma’afer district, Taiz
Tamdeen Youth Foundation (TYF) on Saturday held a mass festival in Al-Ma’afer district, Taiz governorate to raise awareness of rationalizing water consumption and maintaining the cleanliness of the environment and health means to cope with cholera epidemic. The festival was attended by hundreds of Al Ma’afer citizens, Director of the district Adel Al Mashmar, a number of Directors of Executive Offices and School Directors, and Leader of Water and Environmental Sanitation Team at CARE International, Taiz / Ibb Eng. Montaser Taha. Eng. Montaser Taha delivered a speech in which he praised the awareness activities carried out by Tamdeen Youth and the distinguished partnership with them in implementing a number of projects. He said : “The occasion of World Water Day comes this year with the outbreak of cholera epidemic in Yemen, especially in Taiz governorate, which requires everyone to redouble efforts and dedicate the appropriate activities to confront the epidemic and create a healthy culture to preserve the environment, public, home and personal hygiene, and sterilization of drinking water.” He also indicates that this festival is one of the successful methods of community awareness.
For his part, the director of Tamdeen Youth Foundation office in Taiz Ibrahim Almuslimi confirms the Foundation’s active contribution in facing cholera in Taiz and motivating local communities to live in a healthy, clean and epidemiological environment. He also praised the interaction of the population in Al Ma’afer, Al-Mawasat, Samei, Al- Silw, Al-Wazeiah and Jebel Habashi districts where the Foundation, in partnership with CARE and funded by European Union, implemented Multi-Sectoral Assistance project to save Internally Displaced Persons(IDP) and host communities. Al-Musallami considered the public attendance of the people in the festival as an evidence of the success of their projects and awareness activities and their place in the population. Finally, he thanked CARE International and European Union for supporting the programs and projects of the humanitarian and development foundation. He also highly praised the interaction of local and executive authorities, school directors, social figures in the districts, field teams of the project, volunteers , and all those attending the festival.
In his speech, ECHOIII Project Officer Eng. Ahmad Al-Behairy reviewed the programs and activities carried out by the Foundation within the framework of the project and the objectives it aims to achieve, particularly the elimination of cholera and access to a clean and safe environment for the population.
Subsequently, a number of families who carried out voluntary initiatives in the field of sanitation, 20 volunteers as well as the young men and women who contributed to revive the festival were honored. The students of Yoliwo 13 school in Alnchma city, the Center of AlMa’afer district , presented songs, poetry and theater that gained the public admiration and motivated them to care of hygiene, environmental conservation and volunteer in facing cholera and infectious disease.
The project distributed 1320 housing kits, 300 winter kits, 1320 health kits and chlorine tablets to sterilize drinking water for hundreds of households in the targeted areas. The project also mobilized and motivated communities to carry out voluntary initiatives in the field of hygiene and environmental protection. Furthermore, it made a positive change in 2555 families in which garbage disposal became daily activities for them , and the services and activities of the project will continue until July 2019.
