Humanitarian Localization Initiative Coordinator and Members Meet the Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen
As part of the initiative to localize humanitarian action in Yemen, within a series of meetings in this aspect, and to apply it to reality; the chairman of TYF, Coordinator of the Humanitarian Localization Initiative, Mr. Hussein Al Suhaily, met with the Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, Mr. David Gresley.
During the meeting, the areas of the initiative’s logical framework and the need to localize humanitarian action in Yemen were discussed, in the presence of:
- The Head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Yemen, Mr. Sajjad Mohammed Sajid.
- The Acting CEO, Program Manager at TYF, Dr. Tammam Al-Hetari.
- The Chairwoman of Abs Development Organization, Dr. Aisha Thawabah.
- The CEO of the National Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Response, Mr. Mohammed Salah.
- The Representative of the Field Medical Foundation in Sana’a, Mr Ghaleb Al Banna
- The coordinator of Sana’a Program at Al Nahda Makers Organization, Mr. Khalil Ezz El-Din.
In this regard, the members of the Humanitarian Localization Initiative in Yemen consider it as an urgent need and that its implementation is primarily the responsibility of all actors, based on the international charters and commitments enshrined therein. "The Grand Bargain" and "The Charter for Change", bearing in mind that localization is not limited to the model of local versus international organizations, but rather to work to a model of integration in the seven internationally agreed areas of localization. It is hoped that the UN international officials will participate actively and promote the implementation of the logical framework for the humanitarian localization initiative in Yemen, along with local civil society and government actors, to achieve the desired results for Yemeni society.
The members of the Humanitarian localization Initiative emphasized that the localization is part of a set of processes in which efforts synergize between local and international organizations and donors and relevant governmental actors as well.
In turn, Gresley welcomed and supported the initiative. He emphasized the need to empower the leading role of civil society in Yemen, while developing plans to support institutional development and capacity-building.
While Sajid expressed their interest in the issue of localization. He noted that the initiative and the proposed localization framework would be reviewed.
The meeting reviewed the main activities of CSOs since 2019, the support provided in this regard by Near and ICVA, and the support of Care and Oxfam.
The most important steps to be taken in the coming period are the meeting with government agencies, international organizations and donors.
This meeting is part of a list of meetings to be held in September and October in order to agree on the logical framework for the localization of humanitarian action in Yemen by all actors. This will be followed by the start of the preliminary assessment of the localization indicators.
It was agreed that regular meetings would be held between the Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen and the Coordinator and Members of the Humanitarian Localization Initiative.
