The United Nations Envoy Confirms His Support for the Humanitarian Action Localization Initiative in Yemen.
Today, in Taiz governorate, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, met with representative of civil society organizations. The representatives stressed the role of the UN in ending to the suffering of civilians in Taiz, pressuring the parties to the conflict to open ports and roads, respect international humanitarian law and neutralize humanitarian action from conflict.
At the meeting, the UN envoy confirmed his support for the Humanitarian Action Localization Initiative in Yemen and transmitted it to the Humanitarian Coordinator for action and collaboration between the UN and Yemeni local organizations.
Subsequently, Mr. Hussien Al Suhaily, Coordinator of the Humanitarian Action Localization Initiative, Chairman of Tamdeen Youth, called for genuine representation of CSOs in the cessation of war negotiations, peace-building process, and in the UN Envoy’s Advisory Group, ensuring that their voices are heard and that the rights of communities expressed in peace and reconstruction agreements are included. Along with notes from the Office of the UN Envoy to the UN Agencies and Organizations to fulfill their commitments to donors at the 2015 Humanitarian Summit on the humanitarian action localization and to enable local organizations to lead the humanitarian response.
Al Suhaily addressed Mr. Hans Grundberg by saying; "Success in your peace efforts in Yemen will be achieved only by avoiding the mistakes of former envoys, engaging civil society, youth, women and the private sector in peace consultations, and linking aid to stability, community cohesion and development."
