Tamdeen Youth and the Local Authority in Taiz Discuss the Activation of Peace Efforts and the Localization of Humanitarian Action
Mr. Hussein Al-Suhaily, Coordinator of the Humanitarian Action Localization Initiative in Yemen, Chairman of TYF, met with the Director-General of the Office of Planning and International Cooperation in Taiz, Mr. Nabil Jamel. They discussed ways of cooperating and integrating local organizations with the Planning Office to improve the humanitarian response mechanism and to coordinate the interventions of the international and local organizations in order to meet priority needs in Taiz and achieve the sustainable impact of humanitarian action.
At the meeting, Jamel stressed support for the planning of the localization initiative and the provision of all facilities to local organizations to promote their capacity and institutional building.
Al Suhaily also met with the Undersecretary of Taiz Governorate, Rashad Al Akhali, the Director of Taiz Governor’s Office, Ali Qassem, and the Director-General of the Chamber of Commerce in Taiz, Mufeed Abdu Saif, and a number of CEOs in the governorate. He explained the humanitarian action localization initiative and the coordination of efforts between CSOs, the local authority, executive offices and the private sector in order to restore services, address urgent issues for the population, primarily the reopening of the main roads to and from Taiz. They also talked about the full operation of the local water institution, the solution to the environmental problem caused by the accumulation of waste in Al Dhabab area, and the release of prisoners and detainees.
Everyone welcomed the initiative of CSOs, declaring their positive engagement in order to alleviate the suffering of the population, re-normalize conditions, restore services and demonstrate good will through serious dialogue, coexistence, peace-building and reconstruction.
The meetings were attended by the Chairman of the Prisoner Mediation Committee, Abdullah Shaddad, and Dr. Olfat Al Dobai.
