With the support of the project, I became a honey producer. Our life has changed for the better." Taha Antar

He watches his bees with passion and hope as they fly over the Sidr trees in Quaitat Al Wadi village in Al Mashawela sub-district, Al Ma'afer district in Taiz governorate.

The number of bees is multiplying to expand their hives. The project enhances the ability of Taha Ali Mohammed Antar to restore his source of income and provide the living needs of his family (12 members), after years of suffering, and losing all the bees he owned.

Taha is one of the beneficiaries of the Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience Project for Vulnerable IDPs and Host Communities, implemented by Tamdeen Youth Foundation in partnership with Oxfam, and with funding from Danida.

"My family and I went through difficult conditions during the years of crisis. I lost all my beehives because of the pesticides and poisons sprayed by owners of Qat farms, carried by wind to the surrounding trees that the bees feed on, causing their death," Taha said.

Taha did not have the money to buy new beehives, and his suffering was compounded by the economic crisis and unending war conditions.

According to the criteria of the needs survey for the most vulnerable persons from the conflict in Yemen, Taha was selected as one of the project's beneficiaries.

He received training in vocational and technical skills, establishing and managing SMEs. He also received a financial grant that enabled him to buy new hives, and start establishing his own beekeeping and honey production project.

Taha is overwhelmed with happiness as he talks about the project and the impact it has had on his life and family.

"I bought beehives, raised them and took care of them. Their numbers are doubling. They are starting to produce honey.... I can sell honey now. The amount is still little, but I can provide my family's basic needs."

"Thanks to the support of the project. I became a productive person. I am able to provide income for me and my family. My life has changed for the better," he added

Besides Taha, 74 families were provided with assistance and support in the field of beekeeping, honey production, as well as raising and producing livestock. The project was able to improve their standard of living and provide sustainable sources of income.
