Signing Two Initiatives to Resolve Local Conflicts in Mokha and Pave the Way for Building a School and Sports Stadium

Community Peace Committees formed by the Project of "Supporting Institutional Frameworks and Local Mechanisms for Resolving Land Disputes and Promoting Social Cohesion", implemented by Tamdeen Youth Foundation in the West Coast, with funding from Josoor Program, have successfully signed two land dispute resolution initiatives that have hindered the implementation of two service projects in Mokha district for years.

Lawyer Ali Mukarsheb, Project Coordinator, explained that the first initiative of the project's community committee, in Al Zahari sub-district, included resolving a dispute over land ownership that hindered the implementation of a project to build a school in Yakhtel village, north of Mokha.

The committee reached with the parties to the dispute to sign a stop to the dispute and waive it to build additional classes and open a road to the school.

The second initiative was to resolve a dispute over the ownership of a sports stadium land in Al Thawbani village, Al Mashelha sub-district, Mokha district.

The project's community committee reached with the parties to the conflict to sign in order to give priority to public interest and stop the four-year skirmishes, to extend the bridges of peace and make everyone participate in tamping and settling the ground and fencing the stadium, after removing the water cane from its floor and preventing the passage of bicycles and cars from the center of it.

Beside Ali Mukarsheb, the signing of the two initiatives was attended by Mr. Osman Tahush, the local authority representative of Mokha. The meeting and discussion were participated by the Department of Education, the Sport Office, a representative of women, youth and mayors, the community committee consultant Mohammed Al Shali, and Coordinating Assistant Hussam Al Nadheef.

Lawyer Mukarsheb noted that the project focused on strengthening local mechanisms and institutional capacities to reduce land and real estate disputes by creating community awareness and supporting coordination and cooperation between local and judicial authorities and security agencies.

He emphasized the need for communities to raise legal awareness so as to better understand their legal status and rights, and to educate people about the importance of pursuing dialogue as a safe option for conflict resolution, investing energy and resources in development, and living in peace.
