Launching Work on Fencing Hays Historic Castle with Active Participation of Community

The awareness and mobilization campaign carried out by the team of "Supporting Institutional Frameworks and Local Mechanisms for Resolving Land Disputes and Promoting Social Cohesion Project" to protect and restore Hays historic Castle in Al Hudaydah Governorate has resulted in stopping attacks on the Castle Campus, and motivating people to actively participate with the Antiquities Office and local authorities to rebuild the wall, the guarding areas, and the Gate as well.

Lawyer Ali Mukarsheb, Project Coordinator and Supervisors of the Initiative, praised the community's interaction and support for local authorities in their efforts to rehabilitate the castle in favour of community and economic development and to support social cohesion.

"Working from the ground with the community ensures a sustainable and targeted approach to society's needs."

Mukarsheb explained that the project activities were innovative and designed on the basis of issues and challenges that prolonged conflicts and hindered people's access to services on the West Coast to overcome and address them in an integrated approach that creates civic awareness, builds communities' capacities to resolve conflicts, and promotes confidence between citizens and local governments, leading to a consolidation of efforts and energies for building and development and living in peace and stability.
