Community Partnership Contributes to Resolving Educational Issues in Yemen ... An Inspiring Model

Khalid Bin Al Waleed School in As Sana Village, Ibb Governorate, Yemen, faced a major challenge in providing enough space to build two classrooms. The school accommodated only 400 students, so another 245 students had to go to other remote schools, exposing them to terrible weather conditions and risks in the hills and mountains along the way.

Given the great importance of education in children's lives and its impact on their future, Tamdeen Youth Foundation (TYF), with the support of Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), decided to implement a project in As Sana Village. The project aims to improve the quality of education for the most vulnerable IDPs, PWDs, and host community students.

Tamdeen Youth Foundation faced a major challenge in building new classrooms because there was not enough space in the schoolyard, and the landowners adjacent to the school refused to allow classes to be built there.

Thanks to the community committee formed by the project team in the village, TYF was able to overcome this challenge.

The committee began organizing meetings with the community and stakeholders to discuss the critical need to expand educational infrastructure and its positive impact on students' education.

Through its vision and presentation of the critical need for more classroom space, the Community Committee was able to attract the interest and support of the community and stakeholders. Indeed, stakeholders have embraced the issue and provided the necessary support to provide the appropriate land for the construction of new classrooms.

The two additional classes were built while the required educational materials such as bags and school seats were provided.

Teachers and social workers have been trained to provide quality education and support to all students.

Thanks to the successful community partnership and the formation of a community committee of residents, 345 boys and girls in As Sana now have the right to education.

The school's educational quality has been significantly improved, as the school can now accommodate more students and provide a suitable educational environment for them.

"We are in the community committee in As Sana village, Bani Saba sub-district, Al Qafr district, Ibb governorate, proud of our role in activating community partnership and enabling children access to education by resolving the land problem and facilitating the project team's work to build new classrooms and provide educational opportunities for 345 children and children in the region," says Arafat Abdullah Mohsen Ghallab, Community Committee Member.

"We believe that activating community participation in resolving education problems is important because it enhances cooperation between the community and educational institutions and contributes to improving the quality of education and providing equal educational opportunities for all. We are proud to contribute to building a better and brighter future for our children and community." Ghallab added.

Mr. Abdu Nasser Sharian Awdha, School Headmaster, expressed his pleasure at the project's success, saying, "I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to Yemen Humanitarian Fund (OCHA), Tamdeen Youth Foundation, the outstanding project team, and the community committee.

As a result of this successful project, the quality of education at Khalid Bin Al Waleed School has improved significantly. The school is now able to accommodate more students and provide them with a suitable learning environment.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed and supported this project. We hope to keep cooperating in order to promote society and make more significant improvements in education.

This story is an inspiring model of the importance of activating community participation in resolving education problems and providing children with better opportunities in life.

Success didn't end there. The "Emergency, Quality, and Safe Education Services and Assistant for the Most Vulnerable IDPs, People with Disabilities, and Host Communities in Maqbanah and Al Qafr Districts in Taiz and Ibb Governorates" was able to rehabilitate 11 schools and ensure the quality of education for 8,363 children in the two districts.

Thank you to Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF) for its continuous support and trust in our Foundation... Together, we make a real difference in children's lives and enhance their opportunities to learn and develop.
