Distress Call... Al Mahra Is Living a Tragic Situation Due to Cyclone Tej
Due to Cyclone Tej, which is currently hitting it, the situation in AlMahra governorate is catastrophic. According to early estimates, hundreds of homes have been partially and completely destroyed, and residents face great risks to their lives.
Tamdeen Youth Foundation wishes safety to the population. It appeals to the government, UN, international and local organizations and the private sector to urgently provide relief to citizens, and provide support for shelter, food and medical care.
It also calls for an urgent response plan to address the consequences of the cyclone, including the destruction of agricultural lands and many homes and private property, the damage to roads and the interruption of the telecommunications networks.
We must join forces to reduce natural disasters, build resilience to crises and adapt to climate changes.
With the increasing impacts of climate change, the risk of flooding is increasing for the lives of Yemen's population. A review of urban planning by government agencies and local authorities is therefore an urgent to identify needs and gaps associated with infrastructure, water and sanitation facilities.
Integrated flood risk management strategies need to be developed, and early warning and community awareness need to be improved.
