COP28 : Tamdeen Youth Foundation Participates in the Regional Seminar on "Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Climate Change"

Mr. Hussein Al Suhaily, Founder of Tamdeen Youth Foundation, participated in the third regional seminar on "Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Light of Climate Change", organized by Association de la Femmes Saharienne de Développement Intégré, in coordination with the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Environment (Morocco), the Climate Action Network in the Arab World (CANAW), and Abu Dhabi Environment Network. This was on the sidelines of his participation in COP28 Climate Conference in Dubai.

At the Seminar, Al Suhaily presented a working paper on "Youth and Civil Society Role in Oasis Sustainable Development", in which he explained the importance of oasis systems in supporting human, animal and plant life, and the risks faced by such systems due to climate change, thereby threatening such wealth to disappear, and endangering the lives and livelihoods of the residents.

He also explained the role that civil society can play in serving sustainable development in oasis and improving the population's ability to adapt to climate change, through: supporting the "Sustainable Oasis Initiative" launched at the COP22 in Marrakech, and subsequent efforts made to publicize and promote this initiative. In addition to supporting its three areas of intervention, namely recognizing the importance of oases and placing them on the global map of natural and cultural heritage, preserving them from the threats they face, and developing them sustainably, while enhancing local people's livelihoods and preserving natural resources.

Regarding youth, Al Suhaily emphasized supporting youth initiatives aimed at the sustainable oasis development and giving them opportunities to participate in decision-making and address climate change challenges.

At the conclusion of the seminar sessions, the establishment of the "Middle East and North African Oasis Development Network (MENARDO) was announced. The MENARDO aims to enhance cooperation among institutions and authorities concerned with the development of the region's oasis, and supporting efforts to achieve sustainable oasis development in light of climate change.

Tamdeen Youth's participation in this seminar is part of its keenness to enhance cooperation with institutions and stakeholders concerned with sustainable development issues in the region, and to share experiences on how best to address the challenges of climate change.
