Tamdeen Youth Foundation and UNDP Conclude the "Sustainable Water Resources Management" Project in Abyan

In the presence of Tamdeen Youth Foundation's Founder, Mr. Hussein Al Suhaily, its Director, Mr. Nashwan Al Qubati, and the Undersecretary of Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries Eng. Abdulmalik Naji, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Water and Environment for the Planning Sector, Eng. Abdulhakim Alayah, General Manager of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Planning Mr. Abdulaziz Al Jaadi, and Chairman of the Agricultural Cooperatives Union Eng. Saleh Musaed Al Ameer, the closing workshop of the "Sustainable Water Resources Management" project, implemented by TYF in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Zanjibar and Khanfar Districts, Abyan Governorate, was held today in Aden. This comes under "Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project", funded by KfW Development Bank.

 

Significant Achievements:

 

Eng. Sameh Maqsha, Project Manager, shed light on the achievements of the project, noting that it has achieved many objectives, including:

- Reactivating 12 water user associations in Khanfar and Zanjibar.

- Building the capacity of their members in administrative and financial governance and formulating plans and policies.

- Establishing the Federation of Water User Associations in Abyan Governorate, and electing its administrative body.

- Strengthening women's role in water resources management and involving 41 women in the governing bodies of 12 associations.

- Resolving water-related disputes among farmers and improving irrigation canal infrastructure.

- Establishing a Coordination and Communication System for early warning, and promoting integration in response disasters and the effects of climate change.

- Supporting 10 WUAs to establish income-generating projects.

 

Positive Impact on Society:

 

Representatives of WUAs in Zanjibar and Khanfar expressed their gratitude for the efforts of Tamdeen Youth Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), stressing the positive impact of the project in resolving water-related disputes and improving water resources management.

 

Cooperation for Sustainable Development:

 

Dr. Najmaddin Saif, UNDP Representative, stressed the importance of cooperation among various actors to achieve sustainable development in rural areas. He noted that the "Sustainable Water Resources Management" project is a successful model in enhancing farmers' resilience to water scarcity, climate change and the role of local communities.

 

Important Outputs:

The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, the most significant of which are to:

 

- Continue to support and develop WUAs.

- Raise awareness about the importance of sustainable water resources management.

- Promote cooperation among various actors in the field of water.

 

The workshop was attended by all directors of agriculture and water offices in Abyan Governorate, directors of Zanjibar and Khanfar districts, General Manager of Planning Office, Mr. Wadah Hammas, Advisor to the Governor of Abyan for Investment Affairs Abdulnasser Al Yazidi, General Manager of the Technical Department Eng. Mukhtar Al Shaddadi, Deputy General Manager of Agriculture and Irrigation in Abyan, Mr. Saleh Makish, Manager of Agricultural Extension in Abyan, Eng. Abu Bakr Saleh, Manager of Agriculture Office in Zanjibar, Mr. Abdullah Al Qaoud, and Managers of Social Affairs and Labor in Zanjibar and Khanfar districts, Fahmi Al Sayed and Fahmi Bajarad.
