Safe and Hopeful Shelter for 312 IDP Households in Tuban, Lahj Governorate
Hope Born, Suffering Forgotten:
In Tuban District, Lahj Governorate, Fatima and her five children lived in a dilapidated tent in Al Rebat Al Gharbi Camp. The rain was leaking from its roof, the wind was tearing its walls, and the sun heat made it unbearable. The family lived in constant fear of extreme weather and lost hope for a decent life.
Project Restores Hope:
Funded by Yemen Humanitarian Fund #YHF, and in cooperation with the Executive Unit for IDP Camp Management, Tamdeen Youth Foundation implemented Shelter Maintenance and Upgrade Project for 312 IDP HHs in Tuban, Lahj, including Fatima's family.
The project provided more sustainable shelter solutions through maintenance and upgrade of tents, providing weather-resistant materials, improved thermal insulation, and ensuring good ventilation.
New Shelter, New Life:
For the first time in years, Fatima felt safe and protected once her tent was rehabilitated.
"We didn't expect to have a safe and permanent shelter," Fatima said.
"We now feel safe and comfortable. We can live a decent life without fear of rain, wind or heat."
Positive Impacts Beyond Shelter:
The project's impact has not only improved the lives of IDP HHs, but also the relations between IDPs and host communities.
The Shelter Maintenance and Upgrade Project is a successful model of humanitarian relief efforts that contribute to improving the lives of the IDPs and providing them with decent living conditions.
