The “Building Resilience in Yemen through Community-Based Humanitarian Integrated Leadership and Transformation Systems (BRIGHTLY)” project, implemented by Tamdeen Youth Foundation (TYF), in partnership with Oxfam, and with funding from the FCDO Development Aid Fund, succeeded in activating the role of the local community in paving Al Lujaa village An Naqil Road- Zubaid in Al-Sabra District, Ibb Governorate.

With the hands of workers from people of the same region through the cash-for-asset rehabilitation approach, and with local materials, and a community committee, the road was paved, with a total area of 410 square meters, benefiting 1,768 people from the Al Lujaa, Al Subai, Al Jurafi, Al Sahi, Al Wadi, Al Jerir, and Al Akma).

Arif Al-Zubaidi, head of the project's community committee, said: "Before the road was paved, the situation was very difficult. Especially in helping patients get urgent care, as well as the hassle of delivering basic goods to the area. But now the transportation of people and transferring materials have become easy and fast ... We have built hope brick by brick... This road is our collective dream which became true."

The project approach emphasizes the importance of adopting participatory planning and activating the role of local communities in investing available resources, fostering a sense of ownership and common interest, to provide basic services and improve the quality of life in Yemen.
