Opening of New Classrooms for Girls in Marib, Implemented by Tamdeen Youth Foundation (TYF) with Funding from Education Cannot Wait (ECW)
Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Ali Al-Abab, inaugurated today eight classrooms dedicated to girls' education in two schools in Marib Governorate. This comes as part of the interventions of the Emergency Response to Displacement and Climate Change-Related Crises Project, implemented by the Tamdeen Youth Foundation (TYF) with funding from Education Cannot Wait (ECW).
The intervention included the construction of three classrooms at Al-Shaheed Al-Shadadi Girls School in the Al-Jufainah IDP camp in Al-Madina District, and five classrooms at Khadija Girls School in Al-Wadi District. This is in addition to the annexing of restrooms and equipping the classrooms with double desks and basic educational materials, which contributes to improving the learning environment and ensuring the continuity of girls' education.
During the inauguration event, Dr. Al-Abab emphasized the importance of these interventions in supporting girls' right to education, particularly in contexts of displacement and crises. He praised the role of Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and the Tamdeen Youth Foundation (TYF) in responding to the urgent needs of the education sector. He also noted that these projects represent an important step toward enhancing girls' access to safe and sustainable education, mitigating the challenges that hinder them from continuing their studies.
For her part, the Principal of Al-Shadadi Girls School, Ruqayya Al-Rajawi, stated:
"We were facing significant challenges in accommodating students due to a shortage of classrooms and overcrowding, which negatively impacted the quality of education. Today, we feel a major difference with the availability of new, equipped classrooms that help create a more stable and safe educational environment for the girls, which will positively reflect on their academic performance."
In the same context, the Principal of Khadija Girls School, Hayat Saleh Al-Nahmi, explained:
"This intervention represents a qualitative leap for our school, as the students have suffered for a long time due to the difficulty of providing a suitable educational environment. The addition of the new classrooms and fully equipping them will give the girls a better opportunity to continue their education and will reduce dropout rates, especially given the difficult circumstances the region is experiencing."
This intervention is part of broader efforts implemented by the project in the districts of Al-Madina, Al-Wadi, and Harib, which have thus far resulted in the construction and rehabilitation of 65 classrooms, alongside the improvement of sanitation facilities. This enhances a safe and inclusive educational environment that supports children's education, particularly for girls in areas affected by displacement and crises.
