Launching of Promoting Self-Reliance for People Affected by Conflict and Displacement Project in Lahij Governorate

 

By training 60 youth in Tuban district, Lahij Governorate, on small business management, Tamdeen Youth Foundation launched the project of "Promoting Self-Reliance for People Affected by Conflict and Displacement in Lahij Governorate"

 

 

The project, funded by Danida SPA and implemented by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), in partnership with Tamdeen Youth Foundation (TYF), aims to help IDPs and host communities in developing sustainable livelihoods.

 

 

It also provides training and qualification in the areas of (feasibility studies, establishment and management of small businesses, communication and marketing).

 

 

At the opening of the Small Business Management training course, Director of Tamdeen Youth Foundation, Mr. Nashwan Al Qubati, explained that the project will train 60 young men and women in Lahij governorate, and 90 young men and women in Al Khokha district in Al Hudaydah governorate, on life skills, entrepreneurship skills and small enterprise management.

 

 

He praised the great efforts of His Excellency, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Zaouri, and the Governor of Lahij Governorate, Major General Ahmed Abdullah Al Turki, and their role in facilitating the implementation of the project and the success of humanitarian and development projects.

 

 

In turn, the Advisor of Organizations Affairs in Lahij Governorate, Mr. Omar Al Samati, praised the efforts of Tamdeen Youth Foundation to empower and qualify youth for the labor market and contribute to economic recovery and development.

 

 

Al Samati called on donors and international and local organizations to direct assistance to development programs, income-generating projects and employment opportunities, with a sustainable socioeconomic impact.

 

 

For her part, Director General of Literacy in Lahij Governorate, Ms. Intisar Kurd, noted the importance of literacy and adult education in displacement camps and displaced communities, and the need of those affected by the conflict for such interventions urgently, especially with large numbers of IDPs and the most needy groups in host communities.

 

 

She called for the project to be accompanied by an awareness-raising program to reduce the illiteracy among women in the camps, in a way that contributes to promoting their capacities to establish their small businesses and deal with their social environment.

 

 

Head of the Livelihoods Team at the Danish Refugee Council, Sumaia Aliwa, also spoke about the nature of DRC's projects to assist and protect IDPs and refugees, promote durable solutions for conflict-affected populations, and contribute to capacity-building, individual rehabilitation and post-conflict recovery.

 

 

The launch was attended by Mr. Khalil Ibrahim, DRC's Livelihood Officer, Ms. Nora Alban, Head of Al Anwar Development Foundation in Lahij governorate, and Human Development Trainer, Rana Saber.
