Tamdeen Youth Foundation Participates in Water Conference and Discusses “The Impact of Climate Change on Human Development in Yemen”

Tamdeen Youth Foundation, represented by its director, Mr. Nashwan Al Qubati, participated in the work of Yemen Water Conference, which was held in Amman and organized by the Water Security Coordination Group (WSCG) under the chairmanship of the Federal Republic of Germany and the United Nations Development Programme in Yemen, with the participation of the Ministry of Water and Environment, donors, United Nations Agencies participating in the group, and the Technical Team of Yemen Partners, in addition to 40 Yemeni technical experts and a number of international experts.

At the conference, Minister of Water and Environment, Eng. Tawfiq Al Sharjabi, reviewed the national water policies and programs, and MWE's vision to enhance the sustainable management of water system in Yemen. He stressed the importance of joint coordination between the government and donors to identify urgent needs and the need to shift from emergency to construction and development.

The World Bank also presented the outcomes of the rapid diagnosis of water in Yemen and identified how the Ministry of Water and Environment, donors, and UN agencies collectively respond to different scenarios.

The two-day conference discussed the management of the water system in Yemen and how to balance availability and use of water in an effective and sustainable manner in various regions of Yemen. This aims to form a common vision for the development and implementation of national water policies and programs, and to define the role of donors and United Nations agencies in supporting policies and programs to address key development challenges, and enhancing the resilience of national and local institutions to the impact of climate change.

Mr. Nashwan Al Qubati, Director of TYF, also participated in the special event organized by UNDP in Yemen on the sidelines of the Water Conference in Amman to discuss "The Impact of Climate Change on Human Development in Yemen" report. This report is the result of a study carried out by UNDP early last year 2023 as part of the cooperation with Frederick S. Pardee Center for international future prospects to better understand Yemen's potential climate future, and how climate change can affect its economic and human development.

Al Qubati stressed the importance of the report, which provides analysis of climate change data in Yemen and uses statistical techniques to predict the potential climate future until 2050. It is also a key diagnostic tool that integrates climate change and development, and helps prioritize the most impactful actions that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance Yemen's resilience to future crises.
